We are delighted to offer scholarships for our three week, in-person Summer Program in 2022! Feel free to browse our array of scholarships available below.

The U.P. Summer Theater Institute is solely a tuition funded program. Our scholarships are generously provided by a few private donors who are philanthropic advocates of performing arts education.

If your young person demonstrates exceptional curiosity, talent, dedication, and passion for the performing arts, please read about our exciting scholarship options below and apply accordingly. Thank you!

The Lake Superior Scholarship is exclusively for our Local/Commuter students.

We’re so excited to collaborate with the young people of our local and surrounding communities! The Lake Superior Scholarship awards promising local/commuter students with a scholarship for up to 25% of the Local/Commuter tuition rate.

Please read the requirements and details in full before applying.

Lake Superior Scholarship Requirements:

  • Enrollment as a “Local/Commuter” student.

  • Student/family must live within a 30 mile (or less) radius of The Rozsa Center for the Performing Arts. Young residents of Houghton, Hancock, and the immediate surrounding cities/townships near Portage Lake and the Portage Canal area are all encouraged to apply!

  • Proof of residence.

  • Student demonstrates exceptional curiosity, dedication, and passion for theater making and collaboration.

  • Tech/Design Applicants must submit a video statement of interest with answers to the questions outlined in the scholarship application form. Performers will be required to sing/audition in addition to the inclusion of a statement of interest on your video submission.

Please Take Note Before You Apply:

We acknowledge that our program has an extremely demanding schedule, which is why we encourage anyone beyond a 30 mile radius to enroll as a “student-in-residence”, or sleep away student. The safety and well-being of the young people attending our program is very important to us. We greatly discourage any families needing to drive more than 45 minutes each way from applying as a Local/Commuter student.

If you’re not sure, please talk to us. We want to help you find the option that works best for your family, and most importantly, we want to set your young person up for success!
